Nothing Soft About This Patriarch

Tweet Share

Evangelical blogger Matthew Hall points out the latest example of protective patriarchy, from an Associated Press release: a man who killed, with his bare hands, a five-point whitetail buck in his daughter’s bedroom. This was not some freak hunting experience. The deer crashed through the window, leaving confusion and wreckage in its wake.

I don’t know anything about this father’s spiritual state. But there is something to be said about a man who will protect his daughter to the point of tackling a deer for forty minutes with his bare hands, and prevailing. Like the Father, we want everyone to be a Christian. But, right now, if he’s not already, I really want this man with us in the Kingdom struggle.

Only when we see how lost we are, we can find our way again. Only when we bury what’s dead can we experience life again. Only when we lose our religion can we be amazed by grace again.
