Evangelicals and the Emergent Craze

Tweet Share

Denny Burk, a professor of New Testament at the Criswell College in Dallas, has a brief review on his blog of evangelical scholar D.A. Carson’s new book, Becoming Conversant with the Emerging Church. As Burk observes, Carson’s critique of the ideology behind the “emergent” fad within American evangelicalism is compelling and to the point. Those interested in the future of evangelicalism will want to peruse Carson’s book, because this emergent thing is not going away until angst-ridden young evangelicals find a new wave to ride. And you ought also to keep up with Burk’s blog. A polymath with wide-ranging interests and extraordinary insight, Burk is a man we will hear much more from in the future.

Only when we see how lost we are, we can find our way again. Only when we bury what’s dead can we experience life again. Only when we lose our religion can we be amazed by grace again.
